We are so stoked finally introducing coffees from Tamiru Tadesse and his wife Messi. Alo Coffee began as a leap of faith. For years, Tamiru worked as a university teacher and electrical engineer while observing the coffee industry from the inside. He saw how often quality went unnoticed and how unfairly producers were compensated. Even with deep roots in coffee, the imbalance in value and reward held him back from starting something of his own.
Everything changed in 2020 when Ethiopia hosted its first Cup of Excellence. The event showed what was possible when exceptional coffee was celebrated, recognized, and properly rewarded. Inspired, Tamiru and his wife Messi decided to prove that Sidama’s coffees could stand alongside the best in the world.
In 2021, their very first submission, prepared in their home village of Alo in Bensa, won Ethiopia’s Cup of Excellence. It was a breakthrough moment that confirmed what they already believed. Excellence is not just a matter of tradition but also passion, discipline, and the courage to aim higher.
Today, Alo Coffee continues that mission with the same conviction. This washed lot from the Meme washing station is a reflection of their philosophy, offering a bright and expressive cup layered with peach, soft florals, and lemonade sweetness.
